It's Hearths Warming in the village of Hollow Shades, the snow falls thick and heavy with which the bats have an almost universal love/hate relationship. Maybe they prefer to stay inside with their loved ones more than the other ponies in Equestria. Maybe some of the few, more adventurous types venture out into the night to pull their winter pranks. They'd have to be rugged up though, their wings aren't exactly protected from the cold.
